Say Goodbye to Bland Tangerines: Hello, Red Hyang!
Q1. How did Island Box (IB) and Before Sunrise & Co (BS) come to know each other?
[BS] In Singapore, there is a beautiful custom of gifting tangerines during Chinese New Year to wish others good fortune, wealth, and happiness.
Although I gratefully received tangerines from my Singaporean friends every year, I always longed for the taste of Jeju Island's tangerines. I often thought how wonderful it would be to share the delicious Jeju tangerines with my friends here. Jeju tangerines are known for their sweetness and minimal seeds, making them a delightful treat that I believed my Singaporean friends would also enjoy.
A few years ago, it became possible to purchase Jeju tangerines in Singapore. However, the quality was inconsistent, and I was hesitant to buy them due to the uncertainty in taste.
While searching for information to send delicious Jeju tangerines to my family in Korea, I came across IB. Coincidentally, I learned that the CEO of IB had also lived in Singapore for over a decade. I realized that their motivation for starting IB also stemmed from a desire to share the best Jeju tangerines with loved ones.
Believing that the CEO of IB would understand my wish to share Jeju tangerines with my Singaporean friends, I contacted them. Thankfully, they graciously agreed to become the first brand featured on SOS.
[IB] I've long explored the possibility of bringing the taste of fresh, seasonal Jeju tangerines to Singapore through IB. However, the significant challenge has been finding a cost-effective and efficient refrigerated air freight solution.
The delicate nature of our fully ripened tangerines made sea freight impractical due to transit time, while traditional air freight options were simply too expensive.
Thanks to BS's extensive network, we've finally found a specialized logistics partner that can handle the temperature-controlled air transportation our produce requires.
While the shipping costs are substantial, the prospect of bringing joy to Singaporean consumers during Lunar New Year by providing them with the finest Jeju tangerines makes it all worthwhile.
Q2. What is the debut product from IB, the first brand under SOS?
[IB] Red Hyang is our inaugural offering from IB.
A wintertime favorite, especially during January and February, Red Hyang is a premium citrus fruit cultivated by crossbreeding the 'Hallabong', loved by Singaporeans, with other citrus varieties. Its exceptionally soft flesh and sweet taste make it a delightful treat for those who prefer less tangy fruits.
Characterized by its deep red peel and flesh, Red Hyang is significantly larger and flatter than traditional tangerines. Despite its slightly bumpy surface, it has a thin, easy-to-peel skin.
Packed with vitamins, Red Hyang is excellent for relieving fatigue, boosting metabolism, preventing arteriosclerosis, and lowering cholesterol levels. Its potent antioxidants also contribute to overall health.
In Korea, Red Hyang is a coveted gift, particularly during the Lunar New Year festivities.

Q3. What are the contents and cost of the Red Hyang gift set?
[BS] We offer Red Hyang gift sets in two sizes: a compact 2.5kg set with 8-10 fruits or a generous 4.5kg set with 16-18 fruits. Prices start at SGD118 for the small set and SGD178 for the medium.
Our eco-friendly slide-type box is crafted from recyclable paper and features a unique paper-walled 'Tangerine holder' that provides superior support for each Red Hyang, minimizing any damage during transit.

Enjoy the added elegance of our Lunar New Year gift sets. For all January 2025 orders, we'll meticulously wrap your slide box in a classic bojagi ( wrapping cloth), making it a truly memorable present.

Q5. Can I have the Red Hyang gift set shipped to a different address?

Q6. What should I do if I receive damaged Red Hyang?
[BS] We strive to deliver the freshest Red Hyang to you. However, due to the delicate nature of our fruit, occasional damage may occur during shipping.
If your Red Hyang arrives damaged, please let us know within 24 hours from the receipt so we can resolve the issue. We'll provide a full refund for the damaged items. Please note that refunds are limited to damaged products.
Q7. How long can I store Red Hyang and what's the best way to do it?
[IB] Inside the box, Red Hyang may have some condensation due to the temperature difference between the cold storage and Singapore's warm climate.
Here's how to keep your Red Hyang fresh in Singapore:
1. Dry them off: Gently pat each Red Hayng to remove any moisture.
Wrap it up: Individually wrap each one in a paper towel to prevent bruising.
2. Chill out: Place the wrapped Red Hyang individually in a plastic bag and store them in the crisper drawer of your refrigerator. They should stay fresh for about 2 weeks.
3. Eat them up: For the best taste, enjoy your Red Hyang as soon as possible.
4.Check for damage: If any Red Hyang have damaged skin, consume those first to prevent the others from spoiling.
